Creating Outstanding
Clinicians through
Longitudinal Training
The Family Medicine Residency Program at Community Healthcare Network will prepare you to deliver the highest level of whole-patient care in any setting. While our program is set in a highly diverse urban environment, the curriculum is structured to provide the well-rounded competencies you will need to be a practitioner and leader wherever your career takes you.
We have implemented CBME (Competency Based Medical Education). CBME is an outcomes-based approach that has taken root in residency training nationally and internationally. In this model the curriculum is organized around the ACGME core competencies, and the design of the curriculum should enable all learners to master the performance competencies of the profession and specialty discipline for the setting of the future practice.
Longitudinal
Training Priorities
and Elective Tracks
Along with the usual ACGME requirements, we will give special attention to training our residents in a number of focused skill sets, including several that are particularly relevant to urban populations and populations with limited access to health resources.
Core training priorities include:
All residents will receive training in care for people living with HIV as part of the core curriculum, with a goal of sitting for AAHIVS certification in year three.
Residents will develop competency in understanding and treating health challenges from a holistic perspective, including how behavioral and psychosocial factors influence individual and population health.
All residents will gain skill and proficiency in gender affirming care, and will have the opportunity to sit for WPATH GEI certification in year three.
Our curriculum has extra rotations and attention built into it to train our residents in caring for people with chronic disease, with intensive focus on diabetes, heart failure and hypertension management.
All residents will learn about and develop proficiency in managing patients with substance use disorder, including the use of medication assisted therapies such as subuxone.
Our program is highly focused on developing resident expertise in women’s health, with extensive training in reproductive health including Longitudinal Point of Care Ultrasound Training (POCUS).
Residents will receive specialized training in caring for the unique needs of refugee populations.
All residents will develop a well-rounded skill set in helping patients navigate the complex medical system and advocating for their best interests at every step along the way.
Our faculty will mentor and support residents who are interested in pursuing geriatric and palliative care and global health fellowships as well.
Residents will develop skills in ambulatory and inpatient POCUS throughout their three years of training.
Residents will learn how to address healthcare disparities and advocate for under-resourced populations effectively, fostering a culture of respect and understanding.
